IRELAND
They arrived at Rosslare in Ireland at 6 pm. then onto Waterford, famous for its crystal. Dooley's Pub beside the river proved an interesting rabbit warren. After dinner the four did a walk about the town, with Carrol and Margaret walking longer and meeting some youngsters who should have been in bed at 9.30. Their adjectives were amazing. Fn this and Fn that. Could be that some 'hoon' Irish didn't like the English, as for the second time in a month, one tyre on our tour bus was slashed overnight, so there was a slight delay in departure for Killarney.
The tour continued to Dungarvan, Youghal and Cork, the country's second largest city on the way to Blarney, renowned for its Stone of Eloquence. At Youghal, Sir Walter Raleigh started potato farming and Moby Dick movie was filmed there. Yes, Carrol and Margaret climbed 162 narrow cold stairs to kiss the Blarney Stone. The Castle is famous for its stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it. The word 'Blarney" has found its way into the English language and has been described as a pleasant talk, intended to deceive without offending. The famous stone is set in the wall below the battlements and to kiss it, one has to lean backwards (grasping an iron railing) from the parapet walk. There is a strong man present to clean the spot after each kiss!!! It took 1 hr. 10 minutes up, but was very quick to descend. It was a lovely walk through nice gardens under large trees to the Castle.
Had lunch and a stout outside a nice pub near a huge craft shop. Lots of beautiful woolen goods, and everything else to tempt the tourist, including Irish linen. Killarney was the next stop. They stayed in another interesting 3 story pub, called Scotts. After dinner some on the tour went to a small pub 'in the paddock'. Father and son entertained with a squeeze box and singing, the microphone being offered to patrons and guess who gave a song - after 2 whiskies on the house - Margaret who was in fine form.
Thursday 27th, leaving Killarney the tour of 100 miles of the Ring of Kerry began. What sparkling landscapes, mountains dotted with brightly coloured farmhouses and winding lanes, bordered with subtropical vegetation After lunch, back to Killarney, then to Limerick ia Tralee and Adore, well known for thatched cottages. An orientation drive featured King John's Castle, St. Mary's Cathedral and the Treaty Stone of 1691. That night they attended a banquet at Knappogue Castle. The greeting was with warm mead, ( honey wine ) then were directed to large long wooden tables. The feast and entertainment began. Great singers dressed in beautiful robes of the ancient times.

After arriving in Dublin, they ate sandwiches on the grass at University Park. Helen and Margaret went to a play but left at interval due to bad language and smokers in the room. Dublin is the capital of the south, has the largest stout brewery, largest urban park and the oldest Chamber of Commerce. The cityh is situated between mountains and the sea. George Bernard Shaw and other word wizards came from Dublin.
